Types of Planned Gifts

Bequest

Through a provision in your will, you can make a gift in the form of cash, securities, real estate, or personal property.  The bequest may provide a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other beneficiary distributions. Some examples of bequest language can be found in the tabs below.

Charitable Trusts

You may consider establishing a charitable remainder trust and naming the NFA Foundation as a beneficiary.  A charitable remainder trust is created when you irrevocably transfer cash, securities, or other property to a trustee.  The trust provides you with income during your lifetime. Norwich Free Academy benefits from what remains in the trust after all trust payments are made.  For more information on establishing a trust to benefit Norwich Free Academy, please discuss with your attorney or financial planner.

Beneficiary Gifts

Naming NFA Foundation, Inc. as the beneficiary of a retirement assets such as a 401(k), 403(b), pension, IRA, life insurance policy, or donor-advised fund, allows you to accomplish a philanthropic goal while realizing tax benefits.

If you are considering making a planned gift in support of NFA, consider naming the NFA Foundation, Inc. as a beneficiary or partial beneficiary by requesting a change of beneficiary form from your plan custodian, broker, banker, or insurance agent.

Please list NFA Foundation, Inc. as beneficiary at 321 Broadway, Norwich, CT  06360.  Let us know so we can thank you!

IRA Charitable Rollover

A charitable IRA rollover is a gift option that allows donors age 70 ½ or older to transfer up to $100,000 directly from the donor’s IRA (or IRAs) to a qualified charity each year.  The donor does not recognize the transfer as taxable income on his or her tax return.  By the same token, this transfer may not be claimed as a charitable income tax deduction.

When you make a gift through a charitable IRA rollover, you can:

  • Count the amount of your rollover toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
  • Avoid additional taxable income, which may allow you to avoid taxation at a higher tax bracket.
  • Satisfy multi-year pledges to the NFA Fund or your reunion gift.
  • Create or add a permanent endowment in your name or in memory of a loved one.
