NFA Foundation Announces Establishment of Jared Dillian '92 Award

The NFA Foundation is excited to announce the establishment of a new scholarship fund made possible by a gift of $100,000 from NFA alumnus Jared Dillian ‘92.

The Jared Dillian ’92 Award will be given annually to a college-bound graduating senior and member of the marching band who demonstrates the highest standard of leadership, enthusiasm, and showmanship. The Jared Dillian ’92 Award is a merit-based scholarship.

Dillian is a trader, entrepreneur, and author. He attributes much of his success to the life skills he learned while participating in the marching band. Jared was an award-winning drum major under the direction of Band Leader John Kuhner. He went on to also become drum major at the Coast Guard Academy, his college alma mater.

Current band leader Kristen Motola said she was touched by how this gift exemplifies the role of drum major. She explains, “drum majors look after their team ahead of their own well-being to help everyone achieve their goals”.

Dillian encourages students to take risks and not be afraid of failure, saying, “my entire adult life has been a study in risk - as a Coast Guard officer, as a trader, as an author, and as an entrepreneur.  At various points in my life, I have bet nearly everything I had on myself. I would encourage students to do the same. If you're content and comfortable, it means you're not taking enough risk”.

The first Jared Dillian ’92 Award will be made to a deserving senior member of the marching band in May, 2021.
