We are letting out a collective sigh of relief!

Governor Malloy has signed into law a bipartisan biennial budget, and no provision affects Norwich Free Academy's governance model.

Things remain status quo.

NFA continues today as an independently governed, privately endowed regional day academy as set forth by the founders over 160 years ago.  The NFA Foundation, Inc. remains a separate non-profit whose sole purpose is to steward the support of alumni and friends to further the mission of the Academy.

Now is the time to thank our supporters.  Those in our NFA community, far and wide, who stepped forward to preserve Norwich Free Academy's independence, we thank you.

You spoke for us, and our legislators listened.

Special recognition goes to our Corporators Emmett D. Riley '87, Representative, 46th District of Norwich, Connecticut General Assembly; Peter D. Calvert '66, Chairman, Franklin Board of Education; and Lesley Mitchell Jones '66, Partner & Senior VP (retired) Reich & Tang Asset Management, LP who gave public testimony to the Education Subcommittee of the General Assembly.  Their efforts on the Academy's behalf have earned them a place of honor in our NFA family.

Secondly, we thank all of you who in any way rallied to support your alma mater.  Whether it was a phone call, a media social post, an email, a letter, or a personal conversation, your collective voice demonstrated the wisdom of preserving our independence.  We ask you to "close the loop" by reaching out to our legislators, especially, those whom you contacted on NFA's behalf, and thanking them for listening.  They did listen, and they have our gratitude.  It is important that they know how much we appreciate their advocacy.

The names and contact information for those legislators whom we asked you to contact are listed on the Independence page of our website.  Access them here.
